Angie Nwokedi - Nigeria

This is a piece by an Aspiring Young Nigerian Writer, Angie Nwokedi. It is a beautiful poem that uniquely depicts her view on her motherland Nigeria

Nigeria

Here, the rain beats harder than anywhere else in the world.
Masquerading the cries of the helpless,
The mourns of the desperate.
Here, lightening strikes brighter than anywhere else.
Smouldering the crimes commited against our nation,
Hiding atrocities in plain sight.
Here, thunder sounds louder than anywhere else in the world.
Roaring injustices,
But here, the sun shines brightest,
So when we dance,
The whole world sees
But the clouds remain constantly,
A perpetual reminder
That on the other side
Of the brightest light
The darkest night
Still remains
